Ravine

The seeds of Ravine were planted when George Monteiro and Prashant Devendran started jamming together after frustrating stints in various bands that never took flight. Enter Jackson Lopez on vocals and Nikhil Lokhande on second lead guitars. These four played with multiple session bass guitarists until Dilip Garga met them through a common acquaintance, Shishir Thakur (Tao) of Blakc. A month of jamming together and the band Ravine was born.

The band was an out and out grunge outfit, playing Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Godsmack and Blakc covers while trying to work on their own songs. It was only when working on their own songs that the band began to understand the creative differences between Nikhil and the others. Despite being extremely different in their musical preferences, the other four had something in common, which wasn’t the case with Nikhil. After a few gigs and irreparable differences in personalities, Ravine decided to move ahead as a four-piece band.

Ravine's first gig as a four-piece band at Tolani College, Andheri drew the attention of the competitors and judges alike as Ravine stood their own, finishing 3rd.

The band’s identity is the personality that each band member brings to every jam and every gig. Prashant with his obsession to talk in Tamil with everyone, including Bihari watchmen; George keeping his mouth zipped through weeks of frustation because Prashant just wouldn't listen to anything and then the volcanic, sentimental outburst on some insignificant day; Jackson being told again and again not to be scared of anyone; Dilip trying to control everything and losing his temper almost every time the band jams. Everything is followed by Prashant laughing deliriously and calling people names in his secretive, indecipherable, incredibly hilarious Seawoods language.

As of today, Ravine is working on new songs and is trying to establish itself in the underground scene. Their newer songs combining various elements of jazz, funk, progressive rock, etc

WHO

B69 has been started by the team behind BAJAAO (www.bajaao.com), India's largest direct online retailer for musical instruments and pro audio equipment. After giving India its first jam room studio (N.O.C.) in 2006, we were constantly thinking about doing something bigger and better for the independent music scene, and now we've done something that might give a serious boost to live music in Mumbai.

WHAT

B69 by BAJAAO is a 1500 Sq Ft air-conditioned music concert hall with a HUGE 20 ft by 6 ft by 3 ft stage, state-of-the-art PA equipment from USA, Germany, and Japan (think Rock in Rio, Mayhem Festival, no we're not kidding) where bands can play at 150 decibels and you can headbang, mosh, or just chill while listening to this city's finest bands.
